Allen Chan

Allen is the founder of Brooks+Chan IP and has over 25 years of experience in the field of intellectual property law.
Allen graduated with an honours degree in materials science and engineering in England. On completion of his master's degree in materials and chemical engineering, Allen began his IP career in 2000 with one of the major IP firms in New Zealand. He relocated to Australia in 2003 to join a top tier Australian law firm where he remained until 2006. Allen subsequently worked at a leading Sydney based boutique IP firm for more than 17 years, 13 of which as a Partner and Director. After a short stint as principal of a leading boutique firm in Sydney, Allen decided to establish his own firm, Brooks+Chan IP, in 2025.
Allen has significant experience in assisting and advising local and international clients on patent procurement, validity, infringement, oppositions, due diligence, portfolio management, design protection and trade mark protection. His experience spans various industries including building and construction, oil and gas, mining and food packaging. He has particular expertise in a diverse range of technologies including spray nozzles, locks, medical devices, renewables, mechanical, materials, chemical and general engineering-related inventions.
